Description

Here are some photos of an immaculate Polikarpov I-16 plus two accompanying I-153 biplanes at the Wanaka Airshow 2006.

This airshow is held every two years. A fabulous range of aircraft are on display in the air and on the ground over the three days.

Photography

The photographs were taken with my Nikon D70 digital SLR, alternating lenses between the 24-120mm AF-S VR and my inexpensive (less than AUD$200) 70-300mm AF-G.

ISO was set between 400 and 800 for the unstabilized 70-300 lens to ensure a sharp picture. I did try to keep the shutter speed as slow as possible, though, as I wanted to see the "prop blur" effect when the aircraft were in flight.

All photos were taken from near the top of the Grandstand - what a view!
